Frequently Asked Questions

How do I adjust camera settings?
Tap any of the control buttons at the top of the screen (ISO, Shutter, Exposure, Focus, Contrast, or Saturation) to open a slider. Adjust the value using the slider, and tap the X button to close the slider when done.
How do I switch between camera lenses?
When using the back camera, you'll see lens selection buttons (0.5x, 1x, 3x) above the shutter button. Tap any lens button to switch. To flip between front and back cameras, use the camera flip button in the bottom right corner.
What is the difference between Auto Focus and Manual Focus?
Auto Focus (AF): The camera automatically focuses. You can tap anywhere on the screen to focus at that point. The camera continuously adjusts focus and exposure.

Manual Focus: You have full control over the focus position using the focus slider. The preview automatically zooms to 3x when adjusting focus for finer control.
Where are my photos saved?
All photos are saved directly to your device's photo library. You can access them through the Photos app or by tapping the thumbnail in the bottom left corner of the camera screen to open the in-app gallery.
What information is stamped on saved images?
Each saved image includes a metadata stamp in the bottom left corner showing:
  • Date and time the photo was taken
  • ISO setting
  • Shutter speed
  • Exposure value (EV)
  • Focus mode (AF or Manual) and position
  • Contrast and Saturation values
  • Active filters (Invert, B&W)
Do my settings persist between app sessions?
Yes! All camera settings (lens selection, ISO, shutter speed, exposure, focus position, contrast, saturation, and filter states) are automatically saved and restored when you reopen the app.
How do I view photos I've taken?
Tap the thumbnail in the bottom left corner of the camera screen to open the in-app gallery. You can swipe left/right to navigate between photos, pinch to zoom, and swipe down to dismiss the full-screen view.
The app is asking for camera permission. What should I do?
GelDoc Imager requires camera access to function. Tap "Allow" when prompted. If you previously denied access, you can enable it in iOS Settings > GelDoc Imager > Camera.
Can I use this app for purposes other than gel electrophoresis?
While GelDoc Imager is optimized for gel electrophoresis imaging, you can use it for any photography that requires manual camera controls and image processing. The app works great for any scientific documentation or photography where precise control is needed.
